Piandréflix - A Family Affair

We are on day 45 of lockdown and I thought it was about time to give you an update.

I’m happy to report that all of our staff and their families are well, there have been no reports of any infection among our 435 people and their families and everyone has been keeping safe in their homes. With this latest news of salons being included in the GCQ, we are deep in preparations for our new normal health and safety-wise, so we will send you an update in the next few days.
I’d like to share with you what the Piandré community has been up to since day 3 of the quarantine.

It was a Wednesday when I decided to speak to all our staff on Facebook Live on our private Piandré group to assure them of the company’s support during this time. With news of many being alone in their homes in Manila, I worried about their mental, spiritual and emotional health so I thought why not have Piandréflix - an education series to give them something to do?

I enlisted my children - Peachy, a certified English teacher, to teach grammar, pronunciation and listening exercises, my youngest Jaton who has been a teacher at his non profit AHA Learning Center for family values and children's story telling, Drea can send a text of her reflections on the daily gospel which has interested her since we came from Holy Land - and Aina the artist, to handle talks on creativity and the Filipino culture and psyche.

As for me, my topics varied from emotional intelligence with mood meters, to having boundaries - what's okay and not okay, vulnerability, always with spirituality woven in.
So that’s what we’ve been doing on a daily basis since March 19! We’ve also enlisted the help of guest speakers in Cathy Dizon who has taught chair yoga classes, a mass and retreat by Fr. Francis Alvarez, SJ and a spiritual talk by the well-loved Ateneo professor Dr. Bobby Guevara.

Throughout all of this, the staff are required to attend most of the classes online after all, these topics are for their own personal development. Thankfully we have seen growth and improvement and as a team, I can truly say we are much stronger now than before this began.

As for me, it has become routine to read more, sift more, dilute and refine and convert chunky truths into bite sized pieces. This takes my energy and sleep away at times but there is joy and consolation that sustains it. My daily show has been an antidote to anxiety that keeps away worrisome subjects, like the bottom line and other lines. It has been a family undertaking and I thank my children for sharing their time & hearts to this project.

With love,

We finally opened our 14th branch last Monday in Abreeza Mall, Davao City. It all started about a year ago when we were offered a space - ground floor with outdoor access, right across SEDA hotel and several Ayala Condominiums. We couldn't pass up the opportunity.

In case you missed it, Piandré Outdoors salon on the 5th floor of our Timog building is alive and well. We have been open for a little over a month and have been able to fix some of the kinks. And we were asked to speak at two online business meetings lately, and we were asked the question, “how have we survived the last 19 months intact?”
